Johnson, Sheppard Honored by HBCUAC
NEW ORLEANS, La. - A pair of Wilberforce University women's volleyball student-athletes were honored by the HBCUAC, the conference announced today (Monday, August 18, 2025).
Sophomores Jamaya Johnson and Anani Sheppard were named HBCUAC Setter and Defender of the Week, respectively. It marks the first time since joining the conference a Wilberforce volleyball player has earned the league's weekly honor.
"Anani and Jamaya came into camp improved as student-athletes and teammates, so these honors are indicative of the hard work that they have put in for preparation of their second season as student-athletes," said Wilberforce University Head Volleyball Coach Jasmine Coleman.
Sheppard, a co-captain, moved to libero this season after serving as an outside hitter a season ago. She finished with 27 digs this week to lead the Bulldogs.
Now a two-year starter for the Bulldogs, Johnson led the team with 27 assists.
