Bio

Alaska Richardson was named Head Gymnastics Coach at Wilberforce University in 2026 after previously serving as a volunteer coach with the Bulldogs program during the 2025-26 season. Richardson brings a diverse background in collegiate athletics, gymnastics coaching, choreography, academic services, and student-athlete development to Wilberforce’s nationally recognized HBCU gymnastics program.

Richardson currently serves as a gymnastics coach and choreographer at the Gymnastics Training Center of Ohio, where she trains competitive gymnasts on vault, balance beam, and floor exercise while designing routines that meet collegiate and competition standards. 

Prior to joining Wilberforce, Richardson gained collegiate coaching experience as a volunteer coach and choreographer with the gymnastics program at Bowling Green State University. There, she assisted with skill development, team culture, athlete motivation, and floor routine construction for collegiate competition. 

In addition to her coaching experience, Richardson has spent several years working in collegiate academic support services. At The University of Toledo, she served as both a Learning Specialist/Tutorial Coordinator and Assistant Academic Coordinator & Academic Coach, mentoring student-athletes while coordinating academic services, retention initiatives, tutoring programs, and student development strategies. 

A former scholarship gymnast at West Virginia University from 2009-13, Richardson was a member of the 2012 EAGL Championship team and earned recognition on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll. 

Richardson has also remained active in growing the sport within underrepresented communities, serving as a Lead Gymnastics Coach for Camp Isla® through Brown Girls Do Gymnastics. Her commitment to mentorship, inclusion, and holistic student-athlete development aligns with Wilberforce University’s mission and the continued growth of HBCU gymnastics.
