Gymnastics Conclude Season on High Note
The Wilberforce University gymnastics team continued its historic season with outstanding performances during meets this past weekend, highlighted by multiple personal bests, season highs, and another program team score record of 186.07.
Several Bulldogs delivered standout individual performances across the two competitions.
Sydney Smith recorded a three-way tie for first place on bars with a season-high 9.65. Madison Kelly delivered an impressive weekend, earning personal bests and season highs on multiple events. In Friday's meet against Centenary, she scored a 9.55 on floor and a 9.55 on beam. She continued her momentum at the HBCU Championships, posting a 9.45 on bars, which marked both a season high and personal best.
Saniah Smith also had a strong performance, earning a personal best on floor with a 9.65. Additionally, she tied her personal best with a 9.6 on beam and achieved a personal best 9.25 on the bars.
Diamond Cook continued to make a major impact on floor exercise, tying her personal best with a groundbreaking 9.825, which placed her third overall at the HBCU Championships.
Promise Jean-Marie had a standout all-around performance across both meets. On Friday, she recorded personal bests on vault (9.425) and beam (9.5), and followed that performance with a 9.5 on floor Sunday, earning second place in the All-Around competition. It was the first time this season Jean-Marie competed for the all-around title. Mackenzie Butler recorded her season-high score 9.525 on the beam Sunday. Kaleigh Garner also achieved a personal best and season high on beam.
As a team, the Bulldogs continued rewriting the program record book. Wilberforce posted a 46.275 on vault, tying the second-highest vault score in program historyFriday. The team also recorded a season-high and program-record on bars with a 45.625.
On floor exercise Sunday, the Bulldogs set a program record of 46.925 - besting the previous program record set Friday.
