Garner Scores Three Season-Highs
DEKALB, Ill. - Freshman Kaleigh Garner posted career-best scores in all three of her events as the Wilberforce University gymnastics team scored 180.775 points at the Beauty and the Beast meet hosted by Northern Illinois University.
Garner scored 9.325 in the vault, an 8.55 in the beam, and 9.275 in the floor. Senior Mackenzie Butler also recorded a season-high score of 9.45 in the beam.
The 9.325 posted by Garner in the vault tied with junior Sydney Smith for a team high in the event. Freshman May Caines scored 9.275, followed by sophomore Mikayla Clements (9.1) and Butler (9.05).
Wilberforce scored 43.9 in the bars, led by sophomore Saniah Smith's 9.0. Sophomore Madison Kelly scored 8.875, followed by Sydney Smith (8.8), Mya Caines (8.65), and junior Jaidyn Bryant (8.575).
Butler (9.45) led the team in the beam, while Bryant tallied a 9.1; Madison Kelly scored an 8.8, Caines an 8.05, and Garner. Junior Diamond Cook continued to lead the team on the floor, scoring a 9.625. Saniah Smith scored 9.5, followed by Garner, Bryant (9.125), and Madison Kelly (8.675).
Wilbeforce returns to action 6 p.m. Friday at Eastern Michigan.
