Saniah Smith Top Gymnast in Two Events
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The Wilberforce University gymnastics team posted season-best scores in two events as the Bulldogs tallied 173.125 in their dual meet with the University of Alaska Anchorage Sunday.
For the third straight meet, the Bulldogs improved their score on the vault with the score of 46.25. Sophomore Sadara Mayhorn posted a season-best mark of 9.45, followed by freshman Kaleigh Garner (9.275), junior Sydney Smith (9.25), senior Mackenzie Butler (9.225), and sophomore Makayla Clements (9.05). All competitors recorded their best scores in the event.
Sophomore Saniah Smith led Wilberforce as it tallied a season-high score of 45.05 on the beam. Saniah Smith, who has improved her score by 1.325 points over the last four meets, finished with a mark of 9.425. Freshman Myca Kelly was the next WU gymnast with the score of 9.1, followed by junior Jaidyn Bryant (season-high 9.025), Butler (season-high 8.975), and sophomore Madison Kelly (8.525).
Saniah Smith was also the top Bulldog on the floor with the score of 9.4, followed by junior Diamond Cook (9.35), Madison Kelly (8.925), freshman Mya Caines (8.625), and in her event debut, freshman Kaleigh Garner (7.8).
Wilberforce posted a score of 37.825 with Sydney Smith leading the way with 8.975. The remaining gymnasts were Caines (8.55), Bryant (8.35), junior Promise Jean-Marie (7.05), and Madison Kelly (4.9).
Caines remains consistent in her all-around scoring with 34.625.
Wilberforce is slated to returns to action 6 p.m. Thursday against Eastern Michigan. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+.
