Gymnastics Competes at Western Michigan
The Wilberforce University women’s gymnastics team opened the season, falling to Western Michigan in a dual meet 194.459 - 137.97 at the University Arena.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Wilberforce University women's gymnastics team opened the season, falling to Western Michigan in a dual meet 194.459 - 137.97 at the University Arena.
Freshman Mya Caines was the lone Bulldog to compete in all four events and finished with an all-around score of 34.675. She scored in the vault (9.350), the bars (8.4), the beam (9.1), and the floor exercise (7.825).
Returning All-American Diamond Cook began her season with a 9.2 on the floor exercise. Sophomore Madison Kelly (8.650) and sophomore Mikayla Clements (7.475) also competed on the floor exercise.
Caines led the team in the vault and was followed by freshman Hannah Gouldbourne (9.30), freshman Sydney Smith (9.275)and Clements (9.150).
Smith (9.425) was the top Wilberforce gymnast in the bars, followed by Caines (8.40), Kelly (7.20), and senior Danielle Johnson (6.45). Smith was also the highest scoring Bulldog in the beam with a score of 9.325. Freshman Myca Kelly (9.20) and Madison Kelly (8.650) scored on the beam.
