PREVIEW: Last Contest Before HBCUAC Action

In its final non-conference game before HBCUAC action begins, the Wilberforce University women's basketball team looks to return to the winning side of the ledger after dropping back to back contests.
LAST TIME OUT: Junior Makyla Tucker and sophomore Laniya Early combined for 35 points, but the Wilberforce University women's basketball team fell to Simmons Saturday, 86-69, in non-conference action.
Simmons went on a 13-3 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters to open up a 10-point lead with 8:31 remaining. The Bulldogs' deficit grew to as much as 15 before a late three-pointer pushed the deficit to 17.
Tucker finished with a team-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-9 from three-point range, while Early added 13 points and six rebounds. Senior Chenoa Moss pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
ABOUT ALICE LLOYD: The Eagles enter the game searching for their first win of the season after suffering a 16-point loss Saturday to Midway. Junior Jamie Cowan and sophomore Elivia Moore combined for 34 points, each scoring 17 points in the loss.
On the season, Moore and Cowan are leading Alice Lloyd in scoring with 18.3 and 15.0 points per game, respectively. Moore, who is the team's leading three-point shooter, is amassing her production in just 26 minutes per game. Cowan is pulling down 10.8 rebounds, nine of which are coming on the defensive end.
CALIFORNIA LOVE: Junior Makaia Smith, a transfer from Compton, leads the team in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and steals (9), while scoring 9.8 points per game – which is good for fourth. Her 55.2 percent shooting from the field leads the team and is tenth in the HBCUAC.
EARLY BIRD: Sophomore Laniya Early leads the team with 12.5 points per game and is second with 5.5 rebounds. She is a preseason first-time All-HBCUAC selection. After scoring just 11 points in the two previous, Early had 13 points in the loss to Simmons.
MOTOWN: Transfer guard Asia Cochran, a sophomore from Detroit, has scored at least nine points in all three games, and is second on the team with 12.0 points per game. She didn't play in the Simmons contest
NIP & TUCK: Preseason second team All-HBCUAC selection, Makyla Tucker is coming off a season-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting in Saturday's loss. It was the second time this season she has reached double figures.
