Lady Bulldogs Fall Short at Homecoming
In an intense homecoming matchup against Lourdes University the Lady Bulldogs fought hard but ultimately fell short, suffering a 82-52 despite some strong individual performances.
Wilberforce, OH - Constance Chaplin delivered a standout performance, finishing the game with 16 points and 6 rebounds. She was a constant threat on offense, attacking the basket and hitting crucial shots to keep Wilberforce in the game early on. Chapmin's hustle on both sides of the court and leadership on offense were among the few bright spots for the Bulldogs during the tough outing. Makyla Tucker also played a solid role for Wilberforce, contributing 16 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist in 37 minutes of action. Tucker's effort was consistent throughout the game, she was active in helping to push the tempo offensively.
Lourdes was firing on all cylinders, taking control of the game with efficiency from the field, shooting 47.8% overall, and capitalizing on the Lady Bulldogs 15 turnovers to extend their lead. Lourdes' defense also stifled Wilberforce's shooting, limiting the Bulldogs to just 41.3% from the field and 31.6% from beyond the arc.
After a competitive first half, Lourdes pulled away in the second, outscoring Wilberforce 44-22 in the final 20 minutes.
While the result was disappointing, Chaplin's performance offered a silver lining for the Bulldogs as they look ahead to the rest of their season. The team will focus on improving their defense, cutting down on turnovers, and finding more offensive rhythm as they prepare for their next challenge.
Despite the loss, the Homecoming crowd gave the Bulldogs a warm welcome and plenty of support.
