Olverson Guides MBB to Overtime Win
The Wilberforce University men's basketball scored seven of the last 11 points to secure the 81-76 overtime HBCUAC victory Thursday in the Gaston F. Lewis Arena.
Missed free throws late nearly cost the Bulldogs.
A pair of missed free throws left the door ajar in the waning moments of the second half, and the Tigers kicked it open with a corner three-pointer to send the game intoovertime. It was a missed free throw in the overtime session that propped the door open, giving the Tigers the opportunity to send the game into double overtime. However, Voorhees missed this chance, and a pair of free throws put the game away.
Senior Jesse Olverson, Jr nearly recorded a double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds. He added three steals and two blocks in the win. Junior Daiquan Coach added 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while senior Eduardo Diaz dropped 16 points in the win.
Freshman Matthew Hardwick contributed 12 points and three boards.
Wilberforce (8-11 overall, 4-6 HBCU) steps away from HBCUAC action, hosting Great Lakes Christian 3 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day.
