Coach Nets Pair of HBCUAC Honors
NEW ORLEANS – Following a pair of upset victories, Wilberforce University men's basketball junior Daiquan Coach pick up a pair of honors from the HBCUAC, the conference announced today (Tuesday, February 10, 2026).
The guard from Detroit was named the HBCUAC Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week. It's the second time Coach picked up the Newcomer award and the first Offensive Player of the Week honor. He is the first Wilberforce men's basketball player ever to pick up the HBCUAC Offensive Player of the Week laurel.
"Daiquan has proven his ability to score at efficient levels all season," said Wilberforce University Head Basketball Coach John Hill. "He is capable of scoring 20-plus points on a regular basis. I am thrilled to watch his total game develop over the course of season. He can be one of the driving forces as we continue the quest for an HBCUAC Championship."
He capped his award-winning week with a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining in Saturday's game to provide the margin of victory as Wilberforce posted the 83-81 upset over Talladega. Coach, who finished with 26 points, was nearly unguardable as he marched to the charity stripe 18 times. He was 14-of-18 from the line and 6-of-13 from the field with three assists and one steal.
Coach led the team in scoring with 27 points as the Bulldogs recorded the road upset of previously one-loss Ohio Christian Tuesday. He was pretty efficient with 11-of-17 shooting, and he added four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Wilberforce (7-11 overall, 3-6 HBCUAC), riding a two-game winning streak, hosts a pair of contests this week. The Bulldogs play Voorhees 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Great Lakes Christian 4 p.m. Saturday.
