Coach Named HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week
NEW ORLEANS – Wilberforce University men's basketball player Daiquan Coach has earned HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week honors, the league announced recently.
This marks the first HBCUAC honor for Coach and the first HBCUAC honor for the men's basketball program this season. It's also the first time a Wilberforce student-athlete has earned the league's weekly newcomer honor this season.
"Daiquan continues to be a consistent contributor for the Wilberforce Bulldogs," said Wilberforce University Head Men's Basketball Coach John Hill. "He exhibitsexemplary leadership that propels the better qualities of our team."
Coach tallied 19.3 points per game during the YES U.S. Virgin Islands HBCU Basketball Classic. He scored a high of 24 points against Virgin Islands on Tuesday and followed with 23 in a victory over the University of Fort Lauderdale on Thursday. For the week he recorded eight rebounds, eight steals and two blocks.
The guard has reached double digits in every game this season, including eclipsing the 20-point mark five times this season. He is currently fourth in the conference with 16.9 points per game.
Wilberforce (5-7, 2-2 HBCUAC) returns to action, traveling to Talladega on January 8.
