The Wilberforce University men's basketball team looks to return to its winning ways after dropping three straight as the Bulldogs open HBCUAC action at Rust.
LAST TIME OUT: Junior Daiquan Coach was the only player to reach double figures with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting with three steals and a pair of blocks as the Wilberforce University men's basketball team fell to Simmons Saturday, 67-62.
Simmons took control of the game with an 21-4 run late in the game to take a seven-point lead with 44 seconds remaining. Wilberforce was 3-for-10 from the field and missed all three free throws in the game-changing stretch.
ABOUT RUST: The Bulldogs have lost back-to-back games, including a three of the last four, following Tuesday's 81-72 loss to Crowley's Ridge. Four players, led by Akeives Shorts' 17 points, reached double figures in the loss. Tykeidriel Moore pulled down a team-high six boards to go along with 15 points.
Shorts is the lone Rust player averaging double digits, dropping 18.9 points per game, while shooting 52.0 percent from the floor. He is also leading the team with 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
EFFICIENCY: Senior Jesse Olverson is fourth in the HBCUAC, shooting 65.4 percent from the floor. He is currently fourth on the team in scoring with 8.2 points per game.
AGENT 0: Junior transfer Daiquan Coach burst onto the season with a 29-point effort in the season-opening victory over Marian. He has scored in double figures in every game this season and leads the team with 18.6 points per game after tallying 8 points in Saturday's loss to Simmons.
BACKCOURT DUO: The backcourt of Eduardo Diaz and Jamir Hymes are second and third, respectively, in scoring. Diaz scored a season-high 25 points in the win over Bryant and Stratton and is second on the team with 11.0 points, while Hymes has reached double figures in all three of five games – averaging 10.2 points.
WINDOW CLEANER: Senior Jaiden Wynn, who missed the last three games, leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game. Olverson and junior Germainn Marshall are tied for second on the team with 5.0 rebounds and Olverson leads the team with six blocks.
