Forty-one Wilberforce University student-athletes have been named to the Athletic Directors Honor Roll, the department announced today (May 18, 2026).  

The recipients of the honor roll earned at least a 3.5 grade point average in the spring semester. This marks the second semester the department has named the Athletic Directors Honor Roll.  

Twenty-six of the spring AD Honor Roll recipients earned the award in the fall/winter semesters.  

"We recognize that excellence in the classroom is just as vital as success in competition," said Wilberforce University Athletic Director Roosevelt Barnes. "As we celebrate the second semester of the AD Honor Roll, including 26 repeat honorees, this achievement reflects our student-athletes' commitment to consistency, discipline, and academic growth. This honor roll continues to reinforce our department's dedication to developing champions both academically and athletically." 

Of the 41 student-athletes, 15 for the honorees earned a perfect grade point average. It's an increase from the fall/winter semester mark of 14. Six of the 15 scholars – Azra Bute (volleyball), Darius Woodson (baseball), Joe Mendy (baseball), Dorian Evans (baseball), Sydney Smith (gymnastics), Mya Caines (gymnastics), and Mackenzie Butler (gymnastics) - posted a 4.0 GPA for the academic year.  

Women's gymnastics, which led the department with a 3.45 grade point average, had a department-high six scholars with 4.0 GPA. Those scholars are Smith, Kaleigh Garner, Caines, Myca Kelly, Madison Kelly, and Butler. 

Three other teams – volleyball (Bute, Cameran Jordan-Ruffin, Genesis Canuto), cheerleading (Aniyah Williams, Makayla Fleming, Kamrya Fleming), and baseball (Woodson, Mendy, Evans) – all have three scholars with the 4.0 GPA.
