Forty-seven Wilberforce University student-athletes have been named to the newly created Athletic Directors Honor Roll, the department announced today (January 13, 2026). 

The recipients of the honor roll earned at least a 3.5 grade point average in the winter/fall semesters. The department will name the AD Honor Roll following the conclusion of every semester.  

"We recognize that performing in the classroom is equally as important as the performance in their athletic endeavors," said Wilberforce University Athletic Director Roosevelt Barnes. "The creation of this honor roll enables our department to put credence into our dedication to academics as well as athletics." 

Of the 47 student-athletes, 14 for the honorees earned a perfect grade point average. Baseball, which tied women's gymnastics with a cumulative grade point average of 3.15, led the department with seven student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA. Adam Mendoza, Mekhi Wright, Darius Woodson, Beau Spears, Joe Mendy, Lawrence Linen and Dorian Evans are the seven 4.0 representatives from the baseball team.  

Gymnastics had five student-athletes – Mya Caines, Danielle Johnson, Diamond Cook, Jaidyn Bryant, and Mackenzie Butler – earn a 4.0 and volleyball had two student-athletes – Chania Blair and Azra Bute – with the academic achievement.
